I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 237

The man was dressed in a suit, his tie perfectly knotted. He had strong brows and large eyes that gave him a somewhat earnest look. As the familiar face came into view, a wide smile spread across mine.

“Jonas, long time no see.”

Talk about perfect timing. I was just about to look for him, and he’d delivered himself right to me.

Jonas’s face lit up with genuine happiness. “I didn’t think I’d see you here! I can’t believe you came. This is an amazing surprise!”

We chatted for a bit. He was also in the one-hundreds, scheduled just before me, so we were both in the afternoon block. I gave him the gift I’d prepared, and he beamed, holding it in the same hand that sported an expensive-looking watch as he gazed at me.

“I heard you got married and even said you were done with design for good. What made you come back? Is your husband here?”

My eyes instinctively flickered toward the sponsors’ area. Two renowned masters of the craft had just entered, and most of the design community was swarming them, offering enthusiastic greetings. Steven stood beside the two men, looking cool and composed. The event host was managing the crowd, surrounded by reporters and camera crews.

As if sensing my gaze, Steven’s eyes lifted slightly, cutting through the reporters and the crowd to land directly on me. His dark eyes narrowed, and a cold, mocking curve formed on his lips. I couldn’t tell what he was sneering at.

I puffed out my cheeks, then turned my attention back to Jonas with a smile. “I was young and reckless back then. Now I’m just trying to be a diligent worker. I’m sorry I disappeared without a word. I hope you can forgive me.”

Jonas laughed. “Don’t be silly, we’re friends. I’m just glad you’re back. Our professor always said you were incredibly talented. It would have been a huge loss if you’d really retired. You might just be a worker now, but you’ll start your own studio and be the boss before you know it. I’m so happy you’ve returned to the design world.”

My eyes curved into crescents. “Me too.”

Jonas and I had taken design courses together in college. We’d worked on projects, struggled together, and become great friends. We used to grab dinner all the time. Though we both had our professional aliases and non-disclosure agreements, we knew each other’s capabilities. He was just unlucky and hadn’t found his break in the market yet, but his work was genuinely excellent.
