I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 672

He panted softly, his long fingers gently stroking my brow with infinite tenderness. His eyes were deeper than I’d ever seen them as he coaxed me in a low voice, “It won’t be cold for long, Zephyra.”

My throat was dry, but I nodded obediently. In the end, though, we didn’t go through with it.

My period had started, completely out of the blue. I hadn't had it once since I’d woken up without my memories.

Steven collapsed onto my shoulder, breathing heavily. “Zephyra, you're going to be the death of me.”

I bit my lip, not daring to say a word.

Steven went out to buy me sanitary pads. When he returned, he held my hand and tenderly cleaned me up, leaving the room steeped in a lingering intimacy.

I woke up the next morning with a sore hand.

After breakfast, we prepared to head back to the city.

David and the innkeeper’s wife chattered away, reluctant to see me go.

Linda was eating ice cream, looking bored as she waited for her boss to get up.

Myron finally appeared, his hair sticking up in a messy cowlick as he slowly descended the stairs. Seeing Steven looking so satisfied and cheerful, he couldn’t resist a couple of playful jabs.

But whatever he said to Steven made the smile in his eyes slowly freeze over. From a few tables away, Steven looked at me. “Is what you said true?”

“Why would I lie to you?” Myron asked, confused. “Did Zephyra not tell you?”

Steven’s face turned cold, and he fell silent.

The drive back to the city would take six hours.

We took two cars, one following the other.

Myron and Linda were in one, while I was in the other with Steven and Gordon.

Throughout the journey, Steven didn’t say a word to me, his attention buried in a magazine.

When I wanted some water, I couldn't twist the cap off. I asked him for help, and without even looking at me, he took the bottle, opened it, and handed it back.
