I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 673

He looked down, the joy, excitement, and relief that had lingered from last night now completely gone.

“Why were you suddenly so good to me last night?”

I froze. He lifted his head, his eyes meeting mine in a deep, penetrating gaze.

“Zephyra, you weren't helping me because you felt bad for me. It was because my kindness felt like a burden, and you wanted to repay it with your body to cut ties with me cleanly. Isn't that right?”

I blinked, my fingers tracing the edge of my plate. I nodded honestly.

Steven laughed, a low sound laced with clear disappointment, though his voice remained calm. “I advise you not to think that way, and certainly not to act on it. Whether you want to sever ties with me or have some other motive, the moment you dare to climb into my bed, I will never let you leave it.”

I stared at him, stunned. A cold smirk touched his lips.

“Don’t look at me like that. You’ve lost your memory, so you don’t remember my temper. Let me enlighten you: if you had told me the truth last night, I wouldn't have just let you off the hook. I would have taken you until you couldn't move.”

His low, slow voice sent a shiver down my spine, my heart thrumming with a strange fear.

I had a chilling feeling he wasn't bluffing. Over the past few days, I'd seen him as a moody but ultimately good person. But his loss of control last night, even with the influence of the drug, made me realize that without it, he could be just as possessive if I ever crossed his line.

What kind of man was my ex-husband?

After lunch, the rain lessened.

We got back on the road. Steven closed his eyes to rest, and I quietly watched the scenery pass by.

The rain fluctuated, its constant patter against the glass making me feel restless and sleepy.
