The video call was from Alice. She had personally seen Freya carry Amelia out and was a bit worried, so she decided to call.

Seeing Alice on the screen, Nina’s eyes lit up. “Alice!”

Alice waved at her with sign language. “How’s your mommy?”

She repeated the signs and mouthed the words carefully

Nina understood a little and promptly replied, “Mommy sleep. No bother Mommy. Nina good.”

Nina could form quite a few sentences now, though sometimes they didn’t connect perfectly.

But Alice could understand her.

Alice signed again, “Are you at the hospital with her?”

Alice wasn’t sure if Nina fully understood, but Nina grabbed the smartwatch and held it up to Amelia’s face.

“Mommy’s here.”

Benjamin watched them chat quietly, not intervening.

He stood up, moved aside, and picked up Nina’s water bottle for her to take a few sips.

Just as he had the bottle in hand, someone knocked on the door. It was Daniel who had come straight after receiving the news.

Before coming over, he had sent Benjamin a message. Benjamin hadn’t replied, so he came in person.

“Is Amelia okay? What did the doctors say?” Daniel immediately started asking questions.

Benjamin gave him a cold glance. “She needs to rest.”

Daniel immediately lowered his voice.

Following Benjamin, the man saw Nina sitting on the hospital bed, her back to him, fully absorbed in her

call.

She didn’t even notice her uncle, so engrossed was she i the video chat.

Feeling a little jealous, Daniel walked closer and called Nina, “Nina, stop the call! Am I not as important as the person you’re talking to?”

He intentionally deepened his voice to show his displeasure.

Nina turned her head, glanced at the seemingly angry aniel, thought for a moment, and waved at Alice. “Bye-bye!”

Nina ended the call to go find Daniel for a hug.

Just one glance, and his expression changed.

“Wait! Don’t hang up!” Daniel shouted, but the video had already ended.

Nina looked down at the watch, saw Alice wasn’t there, and looked up at Daniel.

Seeing this, Daniel adjusted his tone and pulled out a toy to distract her.

Nina mumbled in her sweet little voice and dialed, but this time Alice didn’t answer.

When no one answered, Nina thought the watch was broken.
