Chapter 22 Family Traits
To put it simply, Nina had inherited it from her biological father. According to Daniel, Benjamin had been even more difficult to handle as a child than Nina!
Amelia, holding her teary-eyed daughter, gently turned Nina’s face toward Benjamin. “Nina, apologize.”
Nina sniffled and wiped her tears, her tiny voice barely audible between sobs. “Nina… apologize…”
Amelia’s voice softened with patience. “Just say I’m sorry.”
Guided by Amelia, who patiently coached her word by word, Nina finally managed to get the words out: “I…am…so…sorry.”
Only after Nina apologized did Amelia wipe her own tears away.
Standing in the doorway, Daniel watched the entire interaction between mother and daughter. For the first time, he found himself genuinely impressed with his brother’s taste in women.
He really admired Amelia.
While Daniel observed, Amelia held Nina in her arms and casually brought up the topic of her early education classes. “Nina, you haven’t finished the early education classes I signed you up for. Your teacher called me.”
Nina perked up at the mention of her classes. Amelia continued, “Do you want to go to class tomorrow?”
Amelia valued Nina’s education deeply. No matter how tight her finances were, she never cut corners when it came to her daughter’s learning.
Each of Nina’s early education classes cost $400.
Amelia, who would go months without treating herself to a $400 meal, never hesitated when it came to Nina. She bought the best she could afford for her daughter, even if it meant practicing extreme frugality for herself.
Meanwhile, Nina clapped her hands excitedly. “Mommy, Nina go to class!”
Nina loved her early education classes. They were play-based, and she had made lots of friends there.
Amelia smiled softly and kissed Nina’s chubby cheek. “Okay, then. I’ll take you to class tomorrow.”
Her tone softened further as she spoke, “Nina, I have to film now. The filming location is far away, in the northern part of the city. I might come home really late”
Nina’s small face drooped as she absorbed the news. Amelia continued, “If I come back late, let your or grandpa put you to sleep, okay? Or… you can sleep with your daddy, alright?”
“Amelia, if Zoe makes things difficult for you on set, let me know. I’ll take care of it.” He’d kept the video from that day, and while he didn’t want to ruin Zoe outright, if she crossed him again, he had plenty of ways to make her life miserable.
“I can protect myself,” Amelia replied with a smile, brushing it off. She didn’t want to burden Daniel with her own issues. Instead, she changed the topic. “Daniel, Nina has her early education class tomorrow. Can you keep an eye on her?”
“Of course I can,” Daniel answered immediately. He was more than happy to spend time with and look after the chubby little kid.
The next day, Daniel dropped Nina off at her class, thoroughly enjoying the time spent with her. Nina’s little giggles and her excited chatter made him feel better than he had in days.
Meanwhile, Zoe, who was in the same production crew as Amelia, stared at her phone, seeing the notifications that Daniel had blocked her number and WhatsApp, unfollowed her on Instagram and other platforms…
Her face darkened, her brows furrowing with frustration.
“Daniel, are you really throwing a tantrum with me now?” Zoe muttered under her breath. “Fine. I’ll humor you this once.”
The director of this production was notoriously strict. Zoe knew she had to tread carefully, but the situation was starting to get under her skin.
