Chapter 35 Big Snake

After all, she didn’t have much interaction with Benjamin.

In her dreams, she much preferred the company of Amelia, Daniel, and William.

“Mommy,” came the soft, sleepy murmur from the child.

With eyes tightly shut, she kept repeating the endearing word.

As dawn broke, casting gentle rays over her plump form, Nina woke with a series of sneezes. Having spent the night shivering without a blanket, she had caught a chill.

Her cheeks were flushed with a feverish glow.

“Mommy,” Nina mumbled, rubbing her eyes.

It took a moment for her sleepy brain to register her surroundings.

And there was still not a single grown-up in sight.

Hungry and cold, she pushed herself up, gave her nose a little sniff, and set off.

She was on a mission to find some food!

Roaming the mountains alone, Nina was a paradox of luck and misfortune.

On one hand, she’d managed to avoid falling into the hands of bad people.

On the other, her family was yet to come to her rescue.

Meanwhile, Alistair, having woken up from his wild escapades, was seething with rage.

“That little rascal ran off! Can you believe the nerve of that kid? And Daniel hasn’t sent the money yet. If she’s gone, I’m in deep shit,” he roared.

For Alistair, Nina was the ticket to a fortune. He wasn’t about to let his cash-cow slip through his fingers.

“Move it! Those short legs of hers can’t have carried her far. Nancy, let’s go get her back,” he ordered.

“Okay,” Nancy replied simply and followed him out.

They knew better than to call out Nina’s name.

They were well aware that she’d sneaked away to get away from them.

As time wore on, Nina’s energy was flagging.

Her chubby face bright red, she plopped down beside a large tree.

Unbeknownst to her, on the other side of the tree, a hefty snake was dozing.

Once the big snake woke up and saw Nina, it was already too late to make a run for it.

Chapter 35 Big Snake

After all, Nina had spotted it too.

“Snakey!” came Nina’s soft, baby-like voice, uttering the word in a cute drawl.

Right after calling out to the snake, she stretched out her chubby little hands, eager to hug the big snake!

The big snake was shocked, as if it was screaming internally, “No! Stay away from me!”

The snake could clearly sense the spirit of the bald eagle in Nina.

Terrified by the spirit, it was on the verge of losing its wits.

Just as the snake was so frightened that it wished it could slither away right then and there, Alistair, who had come looking for Nina, caught sight of her.

“Hey, you! Get your butt over here right now!” he roared.

Tracking her down had been a breeze, thanks to the trail of clues she’d left behind.

“You little smart-aleck! You’re gonna pay for this,” Alistair snarled, advancing menacingly.

Nina instinctively took a couple of steps back.

“Go… way,” she stammered in her tiny, quivering voice.

Alistair let out a sneer and lunged forward to grab the little girl.

Spotting the threatening look on Alistair’s face, Nina instantly sensed she was in deep trouble.

“Ugh!” Nina let out a soft whimper, then her little mouth quivered as she burst into loud wails. “Snakey, help Nina!”

With no one else to rely on, she turned to the big snake for help.

The snake had intended to slip away unnoticed. However, the moment it heard Nina’s cries and caught sight of the menacing man, it flicked its forked tongue and suddenly lunged out from behind the tree.

Alistair was caught off guard, coming face-to-face with the snake.

Cold sweat trickled down his back immediately.

Nancy, who accompanied him, shrieked at the sight of the enormous snake and took off running without a second thought.

Alistair also had the urge to flee, but the snake’s cold, unblinking eyes had fixed on him.

He was rooted to the spot, not daring to even breathe deeply.

He had no option but to hold his breath because the snake regarded him as its next meal.

“Help… help!” Alistair gasped. Then, he summoned all his strength and tried to turn and run.

But the snake was lightning-fast. In a split second, it coiled tightly around Alistair’s body.
