At first, there was an innate urge in little Nina to find her dad. But as soon as her eyes landed on her mom, all thoughts of her dad flew out the window.
“Mommy!” she exclaimed, eyes fixed on her mother’s face.
Her lower lip started to tremble, and then, in a heartbeat, she let out a heart-wrenching wail.
The sound of her sobs was like a sharp arrow, hitting Daniel and William right in the heart.
Without a second thought, William grabbed Benjamin’s arm and practically sprinted over, taking long, quick strides.
“Hey, Nina, sweet pea, don’t cry. Grandpa’s right here. Uncle Daniel and Mommy are here too, and look, here’s your daddy. He’s the one who brought you back safe and sound. Go home with Mommy and Daddy. Grandpa will be back later,” William cooed in a soothing voice.
William then gently nudged Benjamin forward, his heart full of hope for a heart-warming family moment.
But what he saw was far from what he’d envisioned. Benjamin stood there with a stone-cold face, Amelia was solely focused on dabbing at Nina’s tears, and Nina was still bawling her eyes out.
William was left speechless for a moment. This situation just wouldn’t do!
His mind raced with worry about how to get this family on the right track.
Determined to give Benjamin and Amelia a chance to bond, William came up with a plan. “Benjamin, take Nina. Amelia’s still hurt, so no need for her to carry the little one. You two head home first. Daniel, you stay
here with me.”
Nina, who was perched on Daniel’s arm, peeked up at Benjamin through tear-filled eyes.
Earlier, she’d allowed Benjamin to hold her because she didn’t have any other option.
But now, with Amelia, Daniel, and William all around, things were different.
Still holding a tiny grudge, the little girl wiped her tears with her chubby little hands and started shaking her head vigorously.
“No! No! Nina no want daddy. Daddy no luve Nina!” she shouted, her voice full of determination.
Nina’s words hit Amelia like a ton of bricks.
She’d always known she didn’t have feelings for Benjamin, but she never imagined that he’d dislike Nina so openly.
It was clear that he must have shown some kind of distaste for Nina, which was why Nina was saying such things.
A wave of embarrassment washed over Amelia. She bit her lip hard, and a flicker of shame crossed her eyes.
It’s all my fault.

She’d secretly kept Nina from Benjamin, and now the poor little girl was suffering the consequences.

“Baby, it’s okay,” Amelia said softly, as she carefully took Nina into her arms. “Mommy loves you so much. Let’s go home and get you checked out, okay?”
Without another word, Amelia turned on her heel and made her way towards the car, with Nina snuggled tightly in her embrace.
As William watched them leave, his anger flared up. He was so mad that he felt like he could kick Benjamin.
“Benjamin, you owe your life to Nina! Without her, you can never wake up. How can you treat her like this? What kind of father are you?” he snapped.
Daniel also shot a disapproving look at his older brother.
Under their intense gazes, Benjamin’s face darkened like a stormy sky.
He couldn’t believe what was happening. When did I ever say I didn’t love her?
It seemed like she’d just decided to throw this huge “blame” his way.
William was still grilling Benjamin. “Did you say something mean to Nina? Make her think you don’t want her?
“Our Nina’s as sweet as pie and so clingy! For her to say you don’t love her, what the heck did you do or say?”
Benjamin kept a straight face, at a loss for words.
He just refused to give that little chubby girl a kiss, that’s all. Nothing else.
William’s claim about Nina being sweet made Benjamin shoot him a skeptical look.
The little one could whack someone without hesitation. Where was this so-called being sweet?
With William still going on and on, Benjamin’s patience wore thin,
He turned on his heel and headed straight for Amelia.
He then hopped into the same car where Amelia was seated.
Watching Benjamin get in the car, William let out a snort. “If this jerk really dumps Nina, I’m done with him!”
William had quite a few kids, but it was Nina who’d given him a taste of that pure parental bliss.
Nina was like the most precious thing to him now.
