She had prepared a gift for Nina, but hadn’t had time to bring it along.

When Nina heard Sarah say the gift was at home and she’d give it later, she grinned and gave Sarah a sweet, bright smile.

Nina babbled, “Tank you, Grandma. Hug Nina?”

She eagerly asked Sarah for a hug.

Sarah had never met such a fearless, friendly little girl-she was shocked and overjoyed.

She laughed and pulled Nina into her arms.

Nina snuggled her chubby cheek softly against Sarah’s.

Sarah’s eyes lit up at the sweet gesture.

She said, “Nina, how are you so lovable?”

Sarah was completely won over by Nina. Now she understood why Barry always rambled about how cute Nina was and how much he adored her.

This chubby little girl was just impossible to dislike.

Nina giggled at Sarah’s kind words.

She knew exactly how to wrap grown-ups around her little finger.

Sarah loved Nina so much that she turned to her youngest son, Tanner Langley-Barry’s uncle -who’d come with her.

She smiled, “Tanner, go home now. In my bedroom closet, there’s a wrapped box with a pink bow. That’s the gift I picked out for Nina. Go get it right now.”

Sarah couldn’t wait to give the gift to Nina later.

She wanted to hand over her thank-you present to her right away.

Tanner was in graduate school, about to finish his degree.

He seemed a little calmer and more serious than Daniel.

When he heard Sarah’s request, he didn’t complain and stood up to get the gift at once.

Watching Tanner leave, Nina tilted her head and asked, “Give Nina gift?”

Sarah nodded with a warm smile and said, “Yep. Your gift will be here real soon.”

Nina was absolutely thrilled at the thought of getting a present soon.

After snuggling with Sarah for a little while, she went straight back to Barry.

Barry had been watching Nina the whole time, practically dying to play with her.

Nina sat down next to him. Before Barry could even speak, Nina asked him with real concern, “Barry, betta?”

She was asking if Barry had gotten over his sickness.

Barry looked down at the IV in his arm, sniffled, and said, “Not yet. Mommy says I will be soon. Nina, when I’m better, let’s go to the amusement park. Lucien, too. Also, Nelson.”

Barry liked the two boys Nina was close with as well.

He told Nina all his plans for when he got better.

Nina listened excitedly, totally hanging on his every word.

She had come straight from Sunbeam Daycare. She opened her tiny backpack.

It was stuffed with messy little odds and ends, but they were all Nina’s most prized things.

She wanted to share them with Barry.

Sick Barry got special treatment from Nina.

She wouldn’t always share her treasures with Benjamin and Amelia, but she would with Barry.

The warm, sweet scene of the two little cousins together made everyone in the room feel all soft inside.

Nathan smiled happily as he watched the two laughing.

He was so pleased that he grabbed a piece of bread to cat-he hadn’t eaten much earlier and was hungry now.

When Nina saw Nathan eating, she stopped playing with Barry, stood up, and trotted over to

him.
