He looked down at the floor and nearly had a heart attack.

Daniel stammered, “Strawberries? Is that strawberry cake? Nina, did you eat strawberries?”

A few red strawberries lay on the floor. Daniel’s voice shook as he stared at them.

Nina saw how pale Daniel looked and shook her head. “Nina no eat stwabewwy.”

Daniel didn’t hear a word she said.

His shaking hands scooped Nina up and ran out of the room.

Daniel shouted, “Doctor! Doctor! My kid ate strawberries! She’s allergic to them! She just ate some!”

He sprinted down the hall with Nina in his arms.

Nina was jostled around and tried to talk, but she couldn’t get a word in.

He found a doctor, spoke quickly, then took Nina straight to the bathroom.

Daniel said urgently, “Nina. Open your mouth, now.”

He was panicking so badly that he’d never been this firm with her before.
