“Evelyn, go help Oliver with the flower garden in the backyard,” Jason said.

It was a blatant attempt to dismiss her, and Evelyn knew it. She wasn’t about to let him have his way. “I don’t know the first thing about flowers. Let someone else handle it.”

She would stay here and keep an eye on him.

If, by any chance, her uncle became infatuated and harbored improper intentions toward Seraphina, she could step in to help. Leaving Seraphina alone with that scoundrel was simply too dangerous.

Jason stared at her coldly. “Are you sure you’re staying here?”

Once Evelyn was gone, the room fell silent. Jason gestured toward the couch opposite him. “Please, have a seat.”

Seraphina moved to the indicated spot without hesitation, and her posture relaxed yet unyielding.
