Shane was unjustly accused.

He stood there, speechless, as he stared at the little boy in front of him with his fierce glare.

Seraphina’s lips curled into a smile. She reached out and patted the boy’s head. “No one can bully me.”

Sebastian’s eyes shifted upward, catching sight of the wound on Seraphina’s cheek. “Who did this to you?”

“It was an accident.”

“Really?” Sebastian’s eyes narrowed in suspicion. His gaze darted toward Shane like a detective scrutinizing a prime suspect.

A vein twitched on Shane’s forehead as he clenched his jaw. If it weren’t for this kid’s special bond with Seraphina, I would’ve taught him a lesson about respect.

“Yes, I swear,” Seraphina affirmed with a firm nod.

Sebastian knew she wasn’t telling the truth, but if she didn’t want to say it, he’d pretend not to know. “Seraphina, if anyone dares bully you, tell me. I’ll make them pay.”

“Okay.” I would never let anyone trample on me in this lifetime.

“I’ll take care of your wound,” said Sebastian.

As Seraphina was about to decline, he had bolted inside. Moments later, he returned with an old first aid box. His hands moved with practiced efficiency as he disinfected her wound and put on a plaster.

“All done,” he said with a look of satisfaction. “Don’t get it wet, or it’ll leave a scar. Seraphina has to stay pretty.”

“Okay.”

In her past life, she’d left her scar uncovered on purpose. It had been a badge of remembrance, a reminder of the life that was lost, the debt she and the Whitewood Family owed.

She had only intended to check in on Sebastian from afar, to ensure he was safe.

She planned to watch him from the shadows until she was certain the Whitewood Family had been dealt with. She was afraid that history would repeat itself. She was afraid that she would bring him disaster.

But today, the fresh cut on her face had felt like the Pandora’s box. Memories from her past life flooded in. Images of Sebastian’s lifeless body sprawled in a pool of blood played in her mind. Her heart had tightened with an unbearable sense of loss.

For a moment, she felt the terror that if she didn’t see him now, she might never see him again.

Seeing him living well, Seraphina felt a sense of relief.

But her plan to leave quietly had been thwarted by his sharp, watchful eyes.

Seraphina turned to Shane. “Do you have money?”

Shane was stunned as he proceeded to take out his wallet. “How much do

you need?”

Before Seraphina could respond, Shane stuffed his wallet into her hand. “Take as much as you need.”

Seraphina flipped open his wallet. Inside were several crisp bills stacked neatly, at least 3,000 in cash. She pulled it out without hesitation and placed it in Sebastian’s hands. “Hide it well. Don’t let your father see it. If anything happens, call me.”
