“Thomas, Seraphina is here,” Michael announced.

Thomas turned around, his deep, ink–black eyes landing on the young woman before him. A faint tremor ran through his heart as a subtle yet undeniable sense of familiarity welled up within him. It was an odd, inexplicable feeling–unexpected but not unwelcome.

His perfectly chiseled, almost otherworldly features softened slightly, and the sharpness in his gaze melted into a gentler light. In his low, magnetic voice, now tinged with warmth, he said, “Shall we give it a go?” His eyes briefly glanced at the piano nearby.

“Alright,” Seraphina replied without hesitation.

Michael stared at Thomas in disbelief. When had this man ever spoken so gently to anyone? Could it be that Thomas was swayed by her beauty?

Seraphina seated herself at the piano without even looking at the sheet music. Closing her eyes, she began to play. Not a single note was out of place, though her tempo was slightly faster than ideal. However, the discrepancy was so subtle that only a trained ear could detect it.

Michael smiled. “That was amazing, Seraphina. You must be one of Thomas‘ most devoted fans. You’ve clearly practiced this piece a lot.”

“This was my first time playing it,” Seraphina replied honestly, rendering Michael and everyone else stupefied.

“First time?” Michael’s voice rose an octave in disbelief.

She’s bluffing! he thought. There’s no way this was her first time playing it. Did she memorize the sheet music instantly? And then play it with such precision?

“Yes. I’d never seen the score before you handed it to me,” Seraphina explained calmly.

Looking into her clear, unflinching eyes, Michael felt dumbfounded. “You memorized the whole thing in that short amount of time?”

Seraphina nodded.
