Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 484

Madeline's eyebrows pulled together, a frown creasing her face.

The inn owners stepped out with breakfast in hand. The wife waved her over with a bright smile. “Come on, sweetheart, have something to eat.”

Her husband grinned and mumbled, “My wife hardly ever cooks like this. Lucky for me you showed up.”

Julian had handed them more money than they usually made in a year. No wonder they were practically glowing with happiness.

Madeline threw a glance outside. “Sir, could I borrow your car?”

He shook his head. “It's not here.”

“What about the one I saw outside when I arrived?”

He shot her a helpless look. “Your husband bought it.”

Madeline just stared. Seriously?

She rubbed her forehead, trying to push away the headache that was brewing. The innkeeper’s wife came over and gently tugged her arm. “Sit, sweetie. I hope you like the food.”

Madeline let herself be guided to the table, but her thoughts were all over the place. She’d been awake when they brought her here, counting every turn and bump, trying to guess how far they’d gone. She was sure now this place was a long way from the Capital.

Without a car, she had no way to leave. She didn’t even know which direction to head, let alone the roads.

Resigned, she picked up a bread roll and took a bite.

“Sir, do you have a phone I could use?”

He barely looked up. “Your husband bought that too.”

Madeline fell quiet, frustration prickling under her skin.

After lunch, she went outside, put on her sunglasses, and sat in the sun. She could feel the innkeepers watching her, their looks getting weirder by the minute.

She noticed. It was hard not to.

They didn’t seem like the secretive type, either. In no time, they shuffled over, clearly unable to hold back any longer.

The wife leaned close. “Miss, are you… a fugitive?”
