Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 561

Julian’s question was exactly what Madeline wanted to ask. She looked down, her lips twisting with a hint of sadness. What had she done to make Christian hate her this much?

“She’s the killer…” Christian was so angry the words almost slipped out, but when he saw Julian’s face, he stopped himself. The words just wouldn’t come.

“She’s the what?” Julian’s eyes narrowed.

Christian stared at him, silent for a long five seconds. Still, he couldn’t get the words out. This wasn’t the time.

“Either way, I will never agree to the two of you being together. If you want to be with her, you’ll have to go through me first. Over my dead body.”

Julian’s hand tightened, his eyes locked on Christian. He said nothing.

Madeline’s heart dropped, her expression a mess of confusion and pain. What secret was Christian hiding? What was he refusing to say out loud?

“You’re coming back with me now,” Christian ordered.

Madeline looked at him, her voice steady. “This was your real reason for waiting here, wasn’t it? You never wanted us to go into the Ballard house. Are you helping that person inside?”

The first thing Christian had said was to try and send them away. The second thing, about not making a scene, was just another excuse. He must have known that if they went in, something would happen.

Christian’s jaw clenched. “I’m not helping anyone.”

Madeline let out a slow breath. “Then I’m going inside. Please don’t try to stop me.”

Before her words faded, Christian’s eyes flashed. George and a group of bodyguards moved in, blocking the way.

Madeline raised her eyebrows. “And what’s this supposed to be?”

Julian didn’t even look at him. “Go ahead,” he said to Madeline.

She didn’t hesitate. She knew Christian wouldn’t really start a fight here with Julian. With everyone holding their breath, Madeline slipped past the blockade and into the house.

Christian stared at the tense standoff, pressing his fingers to his forehead as his headache worsened.

Inside the grand hall, Maxwell stood proudly at the front with Claire. The room had quieted, all eyes on them.

Maxwell smiled. “Thank you all for coming tonight. The Ballard family has something wonderful to announce. You may have already heard… The lady beside me is the only heir of our matriarch...”

“Wait!”

A clear voice rang out. The heavy doors swung open, and everyone turned as a figure stepped into the light.
