Chapter 17 So Cruel

Madelyn came back to the restaurant just as she was about to go on stage.

David left her alone. He waited until Madelyn got off work and found a place to talk this thing with her.

Florence was obedient and Madelyn agreed to teach her.

David paid high tuition, and he paid two months of tuition at one time. This helped Madelyn a little with her financial problem.

She knew that David was helping her out in another way. Madelyn might have refused in the past, but now she had no energy to care about her pride.

She got home after work, but Camila wasn't home.

Madelyn called and Camila said she'd be back in a minute.

Camila returned about half an hour later. When Madelyn was about to take some food for her, she saw that Camila's arm was swollen.

"What's wrong with your arms?" Madelyn helped Camila sit down.

Camila said casually, "I'm getting old and useless. I just did some things, and my hands is swollen."

Madelyn thought of something and was shocked.

She immediately checked Camila's palm.

She wouldn't let Camila do any more work.

During the night, Madelyn cried for a long time.

When she got up early in the morning, there were clear dark circles on her eyes. She used a lot of concealer but failed to cover them.

Over breakfast, Camila told her, "Take some rest if you can't stand it. If things get worse, I'll even sell that small apartment."

Madelyn reassured her, "It'll get better, Camila. I'll take care of myself."
