"Time has gone by so quickly" She whispers, pushing the thought out of her mind.
"Yea and I can't still believe that I am here with you"
"I'm not always fearless" she blurts
"What?" He throws a glance at her while fixing his eyes back on the road "What did you say?"
"I'm not always fearless" Tears crowd her eyes.
"You aren't?"
"Yes Nathaniel, I get scared too and sometimes I wish to have someone to be next to me"
"I am next to you"
"Is not what I mean"
"I meant when I get scared"
"When were you scared?"
"When we first met"
Bewildered, Nathaniel was at a loss for words, he could still remember that day so clearly like it just happened a moment ago. Despite observing her Intently, he didn't see a trace of fear, he must have known she has had stories about him from her pack.
"You were scared"
"Yes I was scared because I never imagined meeting you let alone being your mate"
"I didn't know, I thought you were not scared since you didn't fail to tell me how you feel about getting into a marriage agreement and told me not to stay off your business"
"I was scared of course but still I knew I needed to tell you that"
"Why did you say that?"
"I wasn't prepared to have a mate, to be honest, I had already given up on having a mate"
"I never gave up on meeting you Alexandra, I needed you and I knew that someday I would meet you, although I was reluctant about approaching you on that day"
"Yet our wolves howled to each other, it couldn't just wait"
"Yea it couldn't. Have you ever been scared again?" Nathaniel asks concerned, he hoped he would always be there to protect her whenever she was scared.
"The day of the Alpha election ceremony"
"What were you scared about?"
"I wasn't sure if I was going to defeat Adam and that made me scared but after I came closer. I felt stronger and at that moment, I only wished to beat the crap out of him and turn him into a laughing stock"
Nathaniel smiles, he never underestimated what Alexandra could do.
"You sure humiliated him"
"Not the way I wanted" she frowns remembering what her pack member had told her earlier.
"I'm sure I didn't do much, after awhile is going to die down and no one was going to remember how he lost to a female Alpha"
"I'm sure no one would forget so quickly"
"How do you mean?"
"Guerrero pack is not a small pack, news has spread like wildfire and so no one was going to forget this ceremony. At least not while you are still the Alpha''
"Right I'm still the Alpha" she muttered, remembering why she was heading to the riverside with Nathaniel in the first place. She wanted to talk to him while she still could.
"Don't worry you gave a show, and as for Adam Hawthorn, that was a red letter day for him" He chuckles causing Alexandra to smile, looking not the window, seeing Nathaniel driving through the familiar road, driving past giant oak, she could feel the scent of fresh water flowing from the big River to all corners of the city as it supplies water to Guerrero pack and other small neighboring packs.
"We are here" Nathaniel hits the brakes, lowering the back windows of his jeep and Alexandra sees it was different from the car he has been driving.
"What happened to your Mustang GT?"
"I got bored so I packed"
"I don't like this jeep"
"Why?"
