A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 316

The city was alive with lights yet wrapped in a cloak of solitude as Matilda drove away with Logan, leaving Adrian standing beneath the veil of rain at their apartment block. The rain poured relentlessly, drenching Adrian to the bone until he finally looked up, one hand covering his eyes, the other fiercely gripping the lapel of his soaked suit.

"Matilda... Did I make a mistake that's set our paths to never cross again?"

Meanwhile, Matilda, cruising on the freeway, was far from aware of Adrian's turmoil. She felt a wave of relief wash over her as she left the city behind. Glancing at Logan, who had fallen asleep after the long drive, a smile crept onto her lips.

"Hey, it's me. We've just hit the freeway. Should be there in about two hours."

She made a call, then continued driving, the black car slicing through the rain like a sword through darkness, heading from Sea City towards Whty City.

...

Yvan found out Matilda had left Sea City the next morning. Just as he arrived at work, Carl dropped the bombshell that Matilda had quit her job.

"Quit? But where could she go?"

"Find out where she's headed next, quick!" Yvan commanded without hesitation.

But the news Carl brought back minutes later sent chills down his spine. Matilda's apartment was up for sale online, signaling not just a change of jobs but a desire to leave Sea City entirely.

"Buy that apartment. And speed up the search for her current location!" Yvan ordered, a sense of urgency in his voice.

"Sea City... We can't find her anymore..." Carl's words hit Yvan like a ton of bricks.

The realization that Matilda wanted to leave, to end everything and truly depart, sent Yvan into a panic. She had sold her apartment, making it clear she had no intention of staying. How calmly she must have planned her departure, Yvan thought.
