A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 317

Godfrey Walker grinned as he took the suitcase from Matilda's hand, “You guys didn’t bring much, huh?”

“Yeah, we didn’t have much to bring in the first place.” Matilda locked the car, and Logan added a quick “Thanks.”

“No problem,” Godfrey said, carrying the luggage forward. It seemed he had arrived with Chloe in her car, as she led the way, “I thought you guys would have a truckload of stuff, so I called in some muscle to help out.”

Holding the suitcase, Godfrey continued, “Not everyone’s like you, moving house and needing a whole moving company with two trucks.”

Matilda laughed at that, and the group entered the basement elevator, watching the numbers climb, “You live on the fourth floor?”

Four-four-four, grim reaper knocking at your door.

Chloe shrugged it off, “No worries, this place is Godfrey’s. Plus, fa-la-la-la, the fourth note is fa, as in 'fa-la-la', prosperity all the way!”

Well, can’t argue with that logic.

Matilda smiled at Godfrey, “Sorry for the intrusion.”

“What intrusion?”

Chloe waved it off, “This guy’s got real estate all over the country, even owns a little island abroad. Just picked one of the places for us to stay, no big deal.”

Matilda was impressed, “Godfrey, you’re that loaded? Never would’ve guessed.”

“The world’s full of unassuming rich folks,” Chloe’s comment was spot on. Matilda thought of her colleagues at the studio, each one a low-key celebrity.

Godfrey was modest, showing none of the arrogance you might expect from someone of his stature, “I’ve been a wild child all my life. Running a restaurant is my dream. Treating customers well is nothing to be ashamed of.”

Right, each to their own.

Once they reached the floor, they dragged their luggage in. The entire floor was Godfrey’s, an open-plan living and bedroom space. Godfrey, after entering, also carried Logan in, “Bought you some little slippers, go pick out a room.”
