A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 318

Over in one corner of the room, Godfrey had already managed to lug all the baggage inside. He then came out to Matilda, saying, “Got your luggage settled in. Picked out a room for you with a balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows. Does that work for you?”

“Perfect, thank you.” Matilda gave Godfrey a playful bow. “Thanks a ton, Sir Godfrey, for your noble assistance.”

“My pleasure.” Godfrey, adopting Matilda’s gesture, jokingly mimicked the tone of a knight speaking to his lady, “What were you two chatting about?”

“About Matilda’s past and present flames.”

Chloe, munching on an apple, went, “Crunch, crunch. Oh, you know, the usual—Yvan, Adrian, those domineering CEO types…”

“You’re asking for trouble saying that,” Matilda retorted, making a move to muss up Chloe’s hair. “I haven’t even started on you and Declan yet!”

Laughing, Godfrey, who was dressed in a turtleneck sweater and jeans, reminiscent of a fresh-faced pop star, said, “You two go ahead and fight it out. I’m off to bed. Holler if you need anything.”

“Night, Mr. Walker!” Chloe called out dramatically, “Take care, Mr. Walker!”

With a chuckle and a mock scold, Godfrey turned to retire. Logan, popping his head out, bid everyone good night before retreating to his little room, worn out from the day’s journey, leaving the living room suddenly quiet, with just Matilda and Chloe remaining.

“So, figured out why you came to Whty City yet?” Chloe inquired, looking over at Matilda.

“Thinking of dabbling in big data.”

Matilda’s response was tinged with an air of mystery, “Been working on some designs in the studio, got exposed to a bunch of different fields, thought I’d give it a try.”

“There’s nothing you can’t do, you genius.”

Chloe patted Matilda on the shoulder, “Well, go for it. I’m off to model for an influencer’s brand shoot in a few days, you free to tag along?”

“Sure, why not.”

Matilda stood up from the couch, “Let’s catch up more tomorrow, shall we? Together, we’re unstoppable. I'm beat from driving, though. Time to crash.”

“Off you go,” Chloe said, sitting cross-legged on the couch. “I’m not sleepy yet, go ahead.”
