A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 334

Chloe stood frozen, taken aback by Nora’s unexpected defense of her. It reminded her of something Godfrey had mentioned once: Nora was someone who focused on the work, not personal grudges, always keeping her professional and personal life distinct.

Chloe realized that as long as she managed her responsibilities well, Nora wouldn't give her a hard time.

Lately, Chloe had been going the extra mile at work. Initially, Nora, who had been quite critical of her, began to adjust to Chloe’s efficient style. Both of them were no-nonsense, straight-to-the-point types. Chloe’s assertiveness and brisk efficiency won Nora over. Initially mistaking her for a delicate flower due to her slight frame, Nora hadn’t expected such steeliness from Chloe in her role.

One evening, carrying the weight of a long day, Chloe headed home. Earlier in the day, she had endured a lengthy meeting in heels, ending up with blisters on her ankles. As she entered her house, sighing at the thought of some rest, she immediately sensed something was off.

The front door was ajar, but the living room was eerily silent.

Stepping inside, Chloe’s heart sank. There, on the sofa, sat the man from her nightmares, Declan, with his cold, severe gaze.

It felt like missing a step on the stairs. She turned to see Logan being restrained by Declan’s men, while Matilda seemed to be out, probably picking up groceries.

Chloe’s voice trembled as Declan smirked, “Well, well, aren’t you going to say hello, Ms. Chloe, or should I say, the living dead?”

How did he find her?

Chloe was shaking, feeling utterly alone without Matilda or Godfrey there to support her. Facing Declan required immense courage.
