A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 387

Orson deftly retrieved a handgun hidden behind a painting on the wall, just as a voice rang out behind him, “Hey, put the gun down, will ya? A misfire would be really nasty.”

That voice?!

Orson’s pupils shrank as he turned, his gun now aimed at Logan’s heart. The kid had somehow appeared before him, lounging on the deep couch, legs crossed, greeting Orson, “Long time no see, Uncle Orson.”

Orson was taken aback. He remembered when Logan had been captured, the folks at Jungle Union had thrown him straight into their notorious ‘black box’ holding cells, which were all secured with electronic keypad locks. Escaping required cracking three separate codes—a feat virtually impossible for most.

Some folks just vanished without a trace, like those who died in that black box.

But this kid in front of him... How had he managed to escape?

Orson quickly shut and locked the door behind him before approaching, tucking the gun away, “How did you get out?”

“Just walked out, that’s how.”

Logan grinned, “Got lucky, I guess. They forgot to lock the door.”

Really? Orson was skeptical, but the boy’s innocent laughter made it hard to spot anything amiss.

“Uncle Orson, is that a real gun you’ve got?”

Logan pointed at Orson’s now hidden gun, “I’ve only seen them on TV, never a real one.”

Orson sighed, putting the gun completely out of view, “Yes, it’s real. Don’t touch it.”

“Can you teach me how to shoot?”

Logan was curious, tugging at Orson’s sleeve, preventing him from walking away. Orson frowned, “You shouldn’t handle this.”
