A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 523

Chloe was momentarily floored, never expecting to hear such words from Yvan. But as the shock wore off, sarcasm seeped into her voice, “Talking like a saint now, are we? Let’s not forget your past deeds hardly make you a knight in shining armor.”

Yvan’s eyes narrowed slightly, but he chose not to retaliate against her jibe. Eventually, he walked away, leaving Chloe to watch his retreating figure with clenched fists.

She swore to herself, Matilda wouldn’t suffer even the slightest bit because of Yvan ever again!

When Chloe returned to her spot, Matilda was there, looking puzzled, “Where did you sneak off to?”

Chloe decided to keep Yvan’s encounter to herself, “Oh, I just went to settle the bill.”

“Why’d you rush to pay? C’mon,” Matilda frowned slightly, “We can keep track of who pays.”

“Even siblings square their accounts, right? I treat you this time; you can get the next.”

“All right, then. I’ll cover our midnight snack.” Matilda smiled. The snow had stopped, and the two women stepped out to admire the winter scene. Suddenly, Chloe remembered something, “Do you still hear from Orson?”

Orson?

Matilda seemed to drift into a reverie, murmuring softly, “Haven’t seen Orson in ages.”

He had been gone for a long time.

As she mentioned him, Matilda glanced down at the pendant around her neck, hearing Orson’s voice from the past.

“My time is running short.”

“Everything will turn out fine, Matilda.”

But where was he now, the man who promised her everything would be okay?
