A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 636

The message flashed across her phone screen, and for a moment, Matilda was lost in a fog of disbelief. Those few seconds felt like an eternity, disconnected from the world, every thought disintegrating into ash.

Staring blankly at the words, Matilda suddenly gasped for air, then frantically made an international call. When Keaton answered, his voice was choked with sobs. Hearing the quiver in his voice, Matilda's heart sank, feeling as if it had plummeted into an icy abyss, instantly frozen solid.

"Matilda..."

Outside an Australian hospital, tears streaked Keaton's face. "Yvan's gone."

Gone.

Beyond saving.

The phone slipped through Matilda's fingers, crashing to the floor. It felt as though a sword had pierced through her very being, shattering her soul into fragments.

Regaining her senses, Matilda scrambled to pick up her phone, covering her mouth as she stammered, "You're joking, right? You know Yvan and I were enemies. You're just messing with me, aren't you?"

But there was Keaton, a grown man crying like a child. "Matilda... I'm so sorry. We did everything we could. Yvan... couldn't be saved."

Indeed, the doctors had said a bone fragment had pierced his kidney, causing massive internal bleeding, not to mention gunshot wounds and a fractured skull. Not even a miracle could have saved him from such fatal injuries...

A red haze clouded Matilda's vision, her lips trembling. "Why... Why did this happen?"
