A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 644

Chloe was holed up in her room, ignoring every knock Godfrey made on her door. She just burrowed deeper into her quilt, refusing to come out. Meanwhile, Godfrey's eager relatives filled the living room, where Matilda was busy offering them fruit and bowls of mixed nuts, while Logan kept them entertained with small talk.

“Just give her a moment, Chloe might be feeling a bit shy.”

“Aw, aren’t you a charmer.”

“It's because I know Chloe so well!”

“Really? Well then, do tell, what’s she like?”

“She’s a stunner!” Logan beamed, “So kind! And full of life, always helping me and mom out.”

Matilda sat down, chuckling, “Kids will be kids, sometimes they speak without a filter…”

“Oh, don’t be modest,” Godfrey’s mom covered her mouth, laughing, “Is this your son? Oh my, you look so young! How old were you when you had him? You’ve kept so well, like a college girl…”

Logan, bursting with pride, “My mom had me when she was pretty young!”

“Then she’s really strong.” Godfrey’s sister gave a thumbs up. “I couldn’t imagine going through that pain.”

“What about the kid's dad?” Godfrey’s mom inquired, a bit too curiously, “Not around?”

Logan’s face fell, and Matilda’s eyes welled up, “He… passed away.”

“Oh.” Godfrey’s mom hadn’t expected to touch on such a sensitive topic and quickly offered consolation, “I’m so sorry, dear. I didn’t mean to stir up sad memories. Ah, life has to move on, right? Your husband surely would’ve wanted you both to have a bright future.”

Matilda nodded through tears, then stood up, “I’ll go get Chloe to come out. Logan, could you keep our guests company for a bit longer?”
