Mark got nudged forward by his sister, walking up to Matilda with an awkward little shuffle. "So, yeah... my sister and everyone... they kinda insisted."
"It's okay, really. I don't mind at all," Matilda managed a sheepish grin. After all, you don't bite the hand that feeds you. And since Adrian was swamped at the office today and couldn't make it, Mark stepping in was actually kind of perfect.
The Walker family exchanged knowing glances at the doorway, each of them sporting a cryptic smile.
"Mark." Logan's crisp voice cut through the air, "Thanks for bringing them over to cover for me."
"Aww," they cooed when Logan called out, melting at the sight, "Godfrey, when are you going to have one of your own? Everyone else's kids are just so adorable..."
Godfrey and Chloe stepped out to briefly greet everyone before announcing, "Let's get going, shall we?"
"Sure."
As they gathered at the door, the family sent them off with warm wishes, "Take care on the road, Godfrey and Mark. Look after the young lady, you hear?"
"Alright, Mom," Godfrey chuckled, a hint of resignation in his voice. "We know, we know. Don't worry, we'll be back safe and sound for dinner. How does a pot roast sound?"
Heads nodded in agreement, voices chiming in, "Great, we look forward to hearing all about it!"
The group shared amused looks and smiles before heading out.
Climbing into the car, Mark took the wheel with Matilda and Logan in tow, while Godfrey and Chloe followed in another vehicle. As they left the parking garage and drove off, Godfrey apologized, "Sorry about my family. They can be a bit overbearing."
"I think it's nice." Chloe was genuinely moved. "Your family cares a lot about you, and they extend that care to your friends. Just look at the effort they're willing to make for Matilda and Logan."
