A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 770

Cyprian nodded, then added, "Haven't seen you in a while, Matilda. How come you've slimmed down?"

Yvan's brow twitched. What was Mr. Layton playing at? Why was he getting all chatty with Matilda?!

Was there a story between them?!

Matilda, ever so graceful, replied, "Been a bit caught up with work, probably lost a few pounds. But I'm taking it easy now. I'll get back to my usual self soon enough."

Cyprian glanced at Matilda and chuckled, "You know, a bit more on you would be even cuter."

Yvan felt like his head was about to explode. What was going on here? What was their relationship?! Their banter was way too flirty!

The devoted husband looked up at Matilda, and there she was, chatting away with Cyprian as if nothing was amiss, completely oblivious to Yvan's growing anxiety.

After a while, Matilda turned to Yvan, softly saying, "Oh, and Yvan, I owe you thanks for today too."

Yvan was taken aback, then averted his gaze.

Matilda found it odd. "Yvan?"

Hearing his name from her lips sounded unexpectedly pleasant.

Yvan felt a softening in his heart but resisted engaging further, maintaining his aloof demeanor, although his eyes couldn't help but steal glances her way.

Noticing Yvan's reaction, Matilda's eyes curved into a smile. "I mean it, thank you. It's not just small talk."

She took a few steps towards Yvan, and in his astonishment, extended her hand, her face as beautiful as he remembered, but with a trace of serene detachment, as if mocking their past yet also showing a sense of letting go. To leave without hurting, to not care was the real pain.
