Chapter 37 Hug
Before the snake could make a move, Benjamin spun around, his eyes zeroing in on Nina.
She was in a complete daze.

She lifted a chubby hand to her head, her cherubic face flushed red with fever. Her big, round eyes, all wet and glassy, looked a tad dopey
Benjamin just stood there, fixated on this unfamiliar little baby.
After a good while, he finally spoke up in a low voice. “You’re Nina?”
Nina was too out of it from the fever to react right away.
But after a few blinks, she recognized her dad’s face.
It was a face she’d smacked with her chubby hands plenty of times.
Nina tilted her head cutely and let out a slow, baby-voiced call. “Daddy?”
That single word seemed to crack Benjamin’s cold, stony heart just a smidge.
The crack was so tiny he brushed it off. He bent down, held out his big hand, and picked up the little one.
But as soon as he touched her arm. Nina just crumpled to the ground. She’d passed out cold from the fever.
“Nina?” Benjamin frowned, a hint of puzzlement in his deep, sexy voice.
Nina’s sudden collapse caught him off guard.
He was clueless, but the snake knew exactly what was up.
It scurried off in a hurry to look for herbs.
Meanwhile, Benjamin scooped up Nina from the floor.
She was burning hot, like a little furnace in his arms.
With one hand holding her, he rummaged through his backpack with the other.
He’d come prepared. His backpack was stocked with all kinds of medicine, especially stuff for kids.
With his years of wilderness survival experience, he knew all about the potential mishaps out here.
In no time, Benjamin, the cleanliness freak, had wiped Nina’s chubby face clean. He stuck fever-reducing patches on her forehead and the back of her neck.
But her fever was through the roof.
He took her temperature, and it was a whopping 104.36 F
The patches alone weren’t going to cut it.

Chapter 37 Hug
Benjamin remained calm as he started using physical methods to bring down her fever.
“Mommy, mommy…”

As Benjamin worked on cooling her down, Nina, still with her eyes shut, started whining for her mom in her sweet baby voice.
She was in so much pain from the fever that all she wanted was her mom’s love and comfort.
If Amelia were here, she’d be holding Nina close, planting kisses on her face and cooing, “Mommy’s here, baby. Nina’s a good girl.”
But Amelia was nowhere to be found.
There was only this newbie dad, who had no clue how to comfort a baby.
To him, the little girl in his arms was just like an important, urgent file at the office.
He was focused and meticulous, but there was no tenderness in his actions.
After whining for ages and getting no kisses or hugs, Nina, with her eyes still closed, puckered up her little mouth.
“Hug… hug!”
Her eyelids were all red and puffy, and big tears started rolling down her cheeks.
One-armed, Benjamin cradled Nina, a fleeting look of bewilderment in his eyes.
“I’m holding you already,” he mumbled.
The embrace he offered was merely to cool the feverish little girl down, yet it wasn’t what Nina yearned for.
Suddenly, Nina let out a heart-wrenching wail and cracked her eyes open.
Kicking her tiny, chubby legs, she reached out her hands, latching onto Benjamin like a tenacious little
octopus.
“Wah… hug… Nina. Mommy… hug,” she whimpered, her voice trembling.
Nina clung to Benjamin as if he were her beloved mom.
Having never been so clung to by a child, Benjamin was out of his depth.
He’d never babysat and wasn’t fond of other kids at all.
This intimate encounter with a child was entirely new and rather troublesome for him.
“I’ll get you to your mommy,” he said, his words few and far between.
After feeling that Nina’s fever had subsided a bit, Benjamin made up his mind to head back.
Just as they were about to depart, the big snake came slithering back in a hurry, an herb clamped firmly
