The Betrayed Princess Rising (Lylah and Ezra) novel Chapter 438

Chapter 438

3rd Person’s POV

Rowan couldn’t endure the sight of Cora’s expression any longer.

Those same eyes that once intrigued him, now twisted something rotten inside his chest. So he left.

He drove through Lunaris without direction until dusk painted the sky in bleeding shades of amber. Rage disgust, exhaustion-everything tangled together until his mind became numb from the weight of it.

By the time midnight swallowed the city whole, Rowan found himself outside the underground club he frequented whenever he wanted silence loud enough to drown his thoughts.

He needed whiskey.

Needed something strong enough to quiet the savage clawing inside his head.

But before he reached the entrance, a soft voice drifted from the alley beside the building.

“Leave me alone. I still have work to do.”

Rowan stilled.

That voice felt familiar.

His instincts sharpened instantly, wolf lifting its head beneath his ribs as he stepped toward the shadows.

Then he saw her.

Violet eyes.

Shiny ebony hair catching the dim glow of the streetlamp.

And a face so hauntingly similar to Lylah’s that Rowan’s pulse lurched violently against his throat.

Two males had her cornered against the brick wall.

“Come with us instead,” one of them coaxed with a crooked grin. “A female as beautiful as you shouldn’t waste her time working in a place like this.”

Low-ranking wolves. Their scents reeked of cheap liquor, stale smoke, and desperation.

“And the work is much easier too,” the other added with a vulgar grin. “Here, you spend all night serving customers one after another. Come with us instead, serve one male for the night, and wake up drowning in gold. All you need to do is spread-”

Crash!

The bottle shattered against his face before he could finish.

Glass exploded across the alley as liquor splashed down his clothes. The male staggered backward with a howl, clutching his bleeding cheek while shards glittered at his feet.

Luen stood unmoving before them, chest rising steadily, the broken neck of the bottle still clenched in her hand.

Her violet eyes gleamed like sharpened amethyst beneath the dark.

The male’s expression twisted with fury. “You crazy bitch!”

Growling, he lunged toward her.

But he wasn’t fast enough.

Not faster than an Alpha.

Rowan moved in a blur.

His hand slammed around the lowly wolf’s throat with enough force to lift him off the ground. Claws punched through skin instantly, sinking deep into flesh until blood spilled between Rowan’s fingers in thick crimson streams.

“A-Alpha…” The lowly wolf choked violently.

Rowan’s eyes burned molten gold.

“Don’t you dare touch her.” His voice came out low and lethal, more beast than man.

He threw the wolf aside hard enough for the bones to crack against the pavement.

Then Rowan stepped forward and drove his boot into the male’s jaw.

The sound echoed sickeningly through the alley.

“I’ll count to three,” Rowan snarled. “If you’re still here after that, I’ll rip your throats out myself.”

Terror spread instantly through them.

They scattered without another word.

Silence settled over the alley once they were gone. Rowan turned toward Luén.

Under the pale moonlight, her eyes shimmered strangely bright, almost glassy with unshed tears.

“You can stop crying now,” he muttered.
