The Betrayed Princess Rising (Lylah and Ezra) novel Chapter 440

Chapter 440

3rd Person’s POV

The eastern borderlands of Lunaris faded into wilderness long before Lunera Valley finally appeared.

Though the Valley stood only a few hours away from the city center, it felt like an entirely different world.

Mist coiled low across the land like wandering spirits, swallowing the narrow roads and barren hills in pale silver. Even the air smelled different.

The moment Lylah stepped off the bus, a chill ghosted across her skin. Behind her, the first rays of dawn- barely crested over the Rigét Hills, staining the fog in muted gold.

Lylah tightened her coat around herself before lifting her phone.

“Ezra, I’ve arrived.” Her voice came out softer against the cold air.

On the other side of the call, Ezra’s deep voice immediately steadied something inside her.

“How does it look?”

Lylah glanced toward the scattered wooden huts barely visible through the fog. Most looked old enough to collapse beneath a light storm.

“It feels… abandoned.”

Ezra had told her before she left. The wolves of Lunera Valley were notoriously isolated, refusing outside interference for decades-including the reforms and support Ezra had introduced across neighboring

territories.

Lylah exhaled softly.

“Once we unpack at the accommodations, we’ll have breakfast and begin visiting the huts one by one.” Her gaze drifted across the mist-covered settlement. “Today is mostly introductions. We need them to tolerate our presence first.”

Ezra frowned audibly through the call.

“Wouldn’t it be more efficient to establish a treatment tent and gather them there instead?”

“Normally, yes.” Lylah smiled faintly. “But they’d never come willingly. Our mentor warned us that the only way is to approach them personally. If we push too hard, they’ll shut us out completely.”

The Alpha sighed quietly. “You’re right.”

His voice lowered afterward, “How’s your accommodation? Is the room acceptable? What about the bed?” His tone sharpened slightly with concern. “You’ll be exhausted after full days of work. And the food, did they prepare proper meals for you?”

Lylah couldn’t stop herself from laughing softly.

“The department arranged everything. I have a room, a decent bed, and regular meals. I promise I’m fine.”

He still sounded unconvinced. “And security?”

Immediately, Ezra caught the shift in her breathing.

“I’m sending Zyrelle and two guards.”

“Ezra, no.” Lylah stopped him at once. “You can’t interfere. If anyone finds out you sent personal guards here, I’ll violate the program rules immediately.”.

“If I speak to Peter Blackmaw, those rules disappear.”

Lylah smiled helplessly at herself.

That was exactly the issue.

Ezra could erase obstacles with a single command if he wished. But she didn’t want special treatment now. She wanted to stand on her own.

“I need to do this properly,” she said gently. “Please trust me.”

Silence lingered between them before Ezra finally exhaled. “I still don’t like it, my love.”

“I know.”

Lylah adjusted the strap of her bag before walking toward the small wooden hut assigned to her group. “I should start unpacking.”
