Chapter 227 Will You Keep Me Company?
Madelyn chuckled in denial. "No!"
She hesitated for a moment, told the story about Evie, and then spoke softly, "Vivian, I know I shouldn't, but I just can't help but want to take care of this child! She looks so much like her, and even her name is Evie."
Vivian also thought it was unbelievable.
What were the odds of such a coincidence in this world?
And the child came out of nowhere, without a mother...
Vivian thought it was implausible. She took a serious tone and said, "You must be missing Everest too much! Madelyn, try again. Perhaps there is someone out there for you!"
For three years, Madelyn had been single.
Vivian felt guilty and anxious.
Madelyn, on the other hand, was not in a hurry. She was about to say something when her phone rang...
The call was from the same number as last night, but it was Evie who made the call, with a sweet voice. "Ms. Green, I miss you!"
Madelyn's expression immediately softened. "I miss you too!"
Everest continued to be affectionate. "I want to meet you!"
Madelyn hesitated.
Meeting students on non-school days was against the rules, so she refrained for a while before reluctantly refusing. "How about we meet on Friday?"
Everest seemed disappointed.
She did not cry, but weakly said, "Dad isn't home! I'm so lonely all by myself. Ms. Green, can you keep me company?"
Madelyn immediately softened.
Vivian, who was next to her, also heard it, and she was taken aback!
Who could resist such a naughty little thing?
Sure enough, Madelyn was already asking where she was.
Everest laughed happily. "Ms. Green, look outside!"
Madelyn was surprised.
She looked out of the cafe with her phone in hand, and saw a stretch Lincoln parked at the cafe entrance, with its rear door open.
Evie was sitting in the car.
Dressed in a small floral dress, she looked at Madelyn obediently and softly.
Madelyn immediately got up. "Vivian, I'm leaving first!"
Vivian watched in astonishment.
This looked like a trap, and Madelyn was firmly caught.
...
Madelyn got in the car.
She didn't know why, but she felt a familiar masculine scent in the car, a faint smell of tobacco, with a hint of pine.
As she furrowed her brows, Everest had already voluntarily sat on her lap.
The driver in front also smiled, "Ms. Green, Little Evie wants to eat a kid's meal. I'll take you there!"
Madelyn immediately thanked him.
When she looked down, the little thing had already hugged her, as if fearing that she would run away.
Madelyn felt a softness in her heart.
This child must have lacked familial companionship in her growing up.
She thought of the man who sold eggs and felt even more suspicious. He was probably out having affairs and leaving the child at home uncared for.
The Lincoln stopped.
Everest pulled Madelyn out of the car and eagerly walked into the fried chicken shop.
Madelyn felt that too much fast food was not good for children, so she sat down and carefully selected the healthier options. Her eyes were especially gentle as she picked...
Everest rested her chin in her hands, watching with a satisfied expression on her face.
"Mom is so beautiful!" she thought.
Later, when eating fried chicken, Madelyn took great care of her. Everest thought to herself, "This must be what it feels like to have a mom!"
She felt progress was too slow.
If she could just call her Ms. Green every day, when could Madelyn come to her house, and stay with her for the night? And stay with dad for the night?
Everest squeezed her eyes.
