AUTHOR’S POV
Maria took Sara along with her. They reached Lexington Villa where everyone was awfully nice to Sara.
“ Who could have known that peasant would turn out to be so powerful. ” Grandmother Eloise had commented happily.
There was no disdain in their voices for Silas anymore.
“ Sara just turned out lucky. She wanted to get rid of Silas so bad. I bet she wants to stay attached to him now. ” Ryan had taken part in their session of comments and opinions.
Sara just sat silently in one corner, waiting for Grandfather Magnus to come.
Rowan had told her that Grandfather Magnus was sick. Sara feared she would never be able to meet him if she had refused to meet this time.
Henry Lexington was sitting in a corner. His eyes were observing his daughter’s face. She looked worried and unhappy. Was she not happy with Silas? He thought about the possibility, but he had seen how Silas did what he could never do.
Silas stood up for Sara. Silas was the best man for his daughter, not because of wealth, but because he really seemed to love his daughter.
“ She hit the jackpot by sleeping with Silas Alexander. I wonder if she knew about him already. ” Aunt Leigh always knew how to twist situations. She wanted Sara to be labeled as a whore who knew about Silas’s wealth and slept with him just so she could get to that status.
Sara kept her silence. She didn’t need to reply to anyone. It was useless. People hardly changed until something drastic befell them.
“ Keep it down now. We have another problem at hand. ” Uncle Joseph intervened, breaking his utter silence and Sara’s eyes were drawn to him.
She inhaled sharply and looked away. She had noticed that Aunt Aria and Uncle John were not here. She had asked earlier about them and she had gotten a simple reply. ‘ Grandfather Magnus sent them abroad. ’
“ Sara. ” Grandfather Magnus made his way inside the living room and Sara instinctively stood up.
He really looked sick. His walk was not powerful anymore, but there was still life left in him. Sara couldn’t feel for him no matter how hard she tried just like the rest of the family.
“ Rowan did something horrible. ” He asserted and took his head seat as Sara sat down.
“ How is your husband now? ” He inquired when Sara kept quite.
‘ He is alive. ’ Sara wanted to scream but she held herself back.
“ He is fine. ” She replied politely. This Lexington world was a world of pretense. Those who don’t pretend, don’t stand a chance at survival.
“ Company’s shares have dropped down drastically. We are going to go bankrupt soon. ” Uncle John impatiently intervened and Sara understood the whole scenario.
“ That’s why we urgently called you. ” How could Grandmother Eloise stay behind in pretense.
Sara looked up at Grandfather Magnus who was silent. Her eyes were not pretending to be cold or emotionless anymore. There were a lot of emotions swirling in her green orbs.
“ I have planned to give you the company. ” He announced and silence fell over the whole living room.
Everyone was holding their breaths back, their eyes switching between Sara and Grandfather Magnus. A cold war was going on inside everyone. Their own agendas and plans were connected to only person now – Sara.
Sara’s breath hitched. These were the words she wanted to hear desperately after her mother died.
She worked, worked and worked to only hear these words. She stripped herself off her dignity, her humanity, her self – respect…Herself.
She did it all to just hear these words and then destroy these words.
How did it feel? She pondered over the thought.
Cold. It just felt so cold.
“ On one condition. ” When silence prevailed for a long period of time, Grandmother Eloise voiced out.
