Chapter 254 Trouble Keeps Piling Up
After five minutes, Shane came sprinting back and tossed the remaining cash at the middle- aged couple without a word.
“Step aside,” he demanded coldly, but his sharp tone wasn’t aimed at the couple–it was directed at the four men with imposing presences.
The four exchanged uneasy glances, their expressions darkening as they caught the triumphant grins on the couple’s faces.
Shane slid into the car without looking back. Walking past the four men, Seraphina glared at them and taunted icily, “Feels good to side with scammers, doesn’t it?”
Bang!
The car door banged closed, and as the engine growled to life, they zoomed away, leaving the four men standing awkwardly behind them. Their attention shifted back to the couple, who were no longer putting on their act.
As the crowd faded away, the couple rose and grinned with satisfaction.
Now realizing they’d been fooled, the four men stopped in their tracks and turned back.
The leader stepped forward, blocking the couple’s path. “You lied,” he asserted, his tone heavy with disapproval.
“Lied? About what? They hit us, and they gave us money willingly. Nobody forced them,” the woman replied, her voice dripping with mock innocence.
The man chimed in, trying to sound tough. “Mind your own business, and let us go.”
However, the four didn’t move. They felt guilty for enabling the couple’s scheme, and they couldn’t let it slide.
One of them spoke sternly, “You’re both coming with us to the police station and returning the money.”
The woman instinctively clutched her pocket, her grip tightening.
“You’re guilty of extortion. Hand over the money and cooperate, and you might get a reduced sentence,” the leader added.
“Extortion? What proof do you have? There aren’t any cameras around here.” The man scoffed, feigning confidence.

The four scanned the area and spotted a security camera, but its angle didn’t cover the scene. Clearly, the couple had planned this carefully, choosing a spot just out of view.
Sensing their hesitation, the woman quickly raised her voice. “Help! These people are trying to rob us! Someone help!”
The four men froze, their anger bubbling to the surface as a small crowd began to form again.
One of them muttered under his breath, “Mika, maybe we should just let this go.”
Mika’s expression hardened. “No. Call the police. We’re not letting them walk away.”
Hearing this, the couple tensed, though they tried to appear unbothered. They’d been in sticky situations before and knew how to play the part.
The police showed up twenty minutes later and took all six of them to the station for questioning.
At the same time, Shane sped toward the pier, his grip on the steering wheel tight.
